Sight Project of Seva International
Over the course of nearly 30 years, Seva Foundation has helped over two million blind people see again through affordable eye care services in Asia and Africa. In the past year alone, Seva-supported programs served over 500,000 people worldwide. More than 25,000 children received care to prevent blindness and over 30,000 people had cataract surgery to restore their eyesight. How does a small organization like Seva make such a big impact? Jessica Mata used to go to school in Coppell, Texas, USA. She later moved to a Plano school, but her mother, Irene, continues to work as a Custodian in the Coppell Independent School District. We heard about Jessica’s failing health and that she needed major surgery and 28 medications each day. When we researched the case and found it to be genuine, we also found out that other charitable individuals and organizations were already at work – and that a Fund was set up on her behalf (Exhibit 7). So Timeless Changes Foundation donated to the fund to support the health of Jessica Mata. This is no different from other deserving cases that are brought up for discussion at the Timeless Changes Foundation Board. The case of emergency surgery described below is similar.
Malkajgiri Surgery
Malkajgiri – There is a very large low-income neighborhood in the Malkajgiri area of Hyderabad, India. Among the many dedicated individuals and NGOs working to improve life for those without many opportunities, Ms. K. Sakuntala came to our attention a few years ago. We had funded some of her organization’s educational and public health initiatives (before the Timeless Changes Foundation organization was formed). Ms. Sakuntala reached out to Dr. Lakshmi Ayyagari, a Board member, in May of 2008, with the details about a young boy that needed surgery to help combat a life-threatening situation. Since the need was immediate, there was no chance for Ms. Sakuntala nor the boy’s parents to seek funding through the state government or other bodies. In an example of the approved exception noted above, Dr. Ayyagari funded the surgery and later reported and got the Board’s approval.
